Meet Dr. Sara Griffin

West Seneca chiropractor Dr. Sara side profile arms crossedI was first introduced to chiropractic at the age of 21. I had suffered an injury to my low back which presented as severe low back pain, muscle weakness in my foot and decreased sensation in my leg. Previously, I had tried physical therapy for my low back pain, but with the amount of pain I was experiencing, I could barely walk quickly let alone perform exercises. My father took me to his chiropractor who reduced my back pain and returned me to playing my senior season of college soccer in a couple months. Even though I was aware now of the effects of chiropractic, I did not consider it as a career choice at the time because I was just one semester away from graduating. That decision came a couple years later after actually working for a chiropractor.

Chiropractic Education

As I mentioned previously, my original career intentions did not include chiropractic. I graduated from Grove City College with the thought of becoming a mental health/school counselor. Since my master’s classes were in the evening, I worked for Dr. Wright, a local chiropractor, during the day. I assisted patients in their spinal decompression sessions, facilitated treatment documentation and helped out with the tasks at the front desk.

After a year of working for Dr. Wright and seeing the amazing treatments and outcomes his patients received, I was convinced that being a chiropractor was the right choice for me.

I applied and was accepted to New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY. After almost 3 years of courses focused on anatomy, neurology, pathology, radiology and most importantly, chiropractic technique, I began my internship treating patients in Depew, NY.

For my last semester at school, I was privileged enough to be one of two chiropractic students selected nationwide for an internship at Walter Reed Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD where I treated active duty military members, Wounded Warriors, and Naval Football players.

In addition, I was able to rotate with other medical residents through other specialties such as physical medicine, radiology, & occupational therapy. I also hold an advanced certification in the Activator Method; I am RockDoc, which means I am certified in a method of functional kinesiology taping; and I completed additional coursework in MRI interpretation.

After graduation, I returned to work as Dr. Wright’s associate chiropractor. In 2016, his family moved and WNY Spinal Solutions took over the practice. Almost 10 years after starting with Dr. Wright, I opened the expanded office to begin realizing our dreams of creating a true wellness center.

Health = Wellness

I feel the quote above most accurately depicts the gaping error in our “healthcare” system right now. While stereotypical medical care certainly plays a large role in emergency situations, we view our chiropractic model as a more accurate depiction of “healthcare.”

While we understand you have symptoms which cause you a great deal of discomfort and concern, we view the symptoms only as an indicator of what’s going wrong beneath the surface. We seek to truly determine the cause of your symptoms and work cohesively with you and your other healthcare providers to make you a better functioning person with less symptoms overall.

I promise our office will work with you to deliver the best treatment, rehabilitation and support necessary to improve your function and health in your day to day life.

Away from Work

My hope is to always be able to practice what I preach. Having been a collegiate level soccer player, I still enjoy competition and high intensity activity. Instead of soccer now, I compete in CrossFit and local races such as the Turkey Trot or Shamrock Run. I utilize chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, good nutrition and appropriate rehabilitative exercises to keep my low back condition under control.

The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
